The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) plus the National Inspection Council have developed the VRQ for Electrical Installations Contracting (NICEIC) Corgi and Multi Skills.
Since January 2005 all electrical work in dwellings has been subjected to the new regulations requirements that comply with Part P that must be carried out by a competent person.
A competent person is a person that has successfully attained a Part P Electrical Installation course and has registered as a Competent Person through an awarding body.
If you pass our ELA Domestic Electrical Installation Course and choose NOT to register with an awarding body you can carry out the electrical work in a dwelling however you will not be able to sign off the work, therefore you will have to contact your local building control officer
You require Part P if you are carrying out domestic electrical work in dwellings whether as your trade or if you are carryout electrical DIY work in your own home.
Which course should I attend?
Minimum requirement
13A Ring Circuit. lighting Circuit using Loop Ceiling Rose. 2 way lighting.Spur Outside Light. Earth Bonding.
If you cannot complete the above minimum requirements unaided
You will have to attend the two weeks Domestic Electrical Installation course.
Trained electricians who can produce proof of achievement e.g. a current 16th Edition Qualification
City and Guilds 236 part 2 or equivalent
If you are competent in the minimum requirements but require Part P then you need to attend on our five-day course.
You may only need to attend parts of the five-day course to cover the areas lacking in knowledge then participate the External Examination.

You will need to bring pens and pencils and paper and a calculator, we here at CS Electrical have copies of the Onsite Guide and the 16th Edition for your use, if however you choose to purchase your own copy and you will benefit because of private study. You can preorder your copy from CS Electrical, which will be waiting for you upon your arrival.
Upon successful completion after you have received you certificate from EAL you will be able to begin Domestic Electrical Installations.
It will be your own responsibility to apply for registration with either ECA or NICEIC there is a yearly fee charged for this membership upon successful completion. Enabling you to sign off domestic electrical installation work done by yourself.
You don’t have to apply for registration with one of the competent persons schemes, you can still do the work however you will have to contact your local building Control Officer who may charge from £100-£200 per 1st and 2nd fix stage.
If you were to fail your external examination you will be able to re-sit on the next available date, written examination have set dates. You will have to pay for your examination fee for your re-sit.
Upon successful completion of the EAL Domestic Electrical Installers Course (Part P) you will have all the relevant qualifications to be a Domestic Electrical Installer not an Electrician.
You will be taught on the course to recognise when a situation is out of your control and to call in an electrician.
